Morning Devotion: Read Luke

Luke 8:15  But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

A Lamp Covered?

Luke 8:16  No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

In light of the parable of the sower and the seed, the sower being the Lord Jesus and the Seed being the Word of God, we have the mini parable of the light.

Matthew 13:37  He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

Luke 8:11  Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

In Verse 16 the Lord speaks of light. Every man has light, the light of physical life and the light of the Lord upon salvation, neither of which are given through religion.

(Physical light) John 1:9  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

(Saving light) Psalm 27:1a  A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation;

John 8:12  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Reflecting back on the parable of the Sower and the Seed we find that the seed sown in the good ground, meaning the Word of God sown in the good heart, brings forth fruit.

Luke 8:15  But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Every Christian (born-again believer) has the light within their heart. That light is the life changing salvation of Christ Jesus our Lord.

That one glorious truth alone aught to be enough to drive us to let our light shine to a lost world steeped in darkness bringing forth fruit of our relationship with Jesus.

Following that great truth is the fact that nothing is hid from the eyes of the Lord. Remember again, that there are those who have the seed sown in hard hearts, heart by the wayside, and those who have seed sown in stoney hearts and seed sown in thorny hearts. The Lord watches all the hearts and nothing is hid. You cannot pretend to be a Christian under the watchful eye of God for He sees the heart.

Luke 8:17  For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. 18  Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

1Samuel 16:7b  ….for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Hebrews 4:13  Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

The great and wonderful thing is this, the Lord looks upon His own as a father does their children in love and kindness and care.

I am so glad Jesus saved me. What about you?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
