Morning Devotion: Read Luke

Luke 4:16  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17  And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20  And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21  And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

The word of God tells us “when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,”

When the time was right God sent forth the His Son Jesus. Jesus came at the perfect time for all of mankind to fulfill all of God’s word and will.

Hebrews 10:7  Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

In our text, Jesus, knowing the prefect word of God for He is the living word of God, went into the synagogue and read from the bible the book of Isaiah which is Esaias.

Isaiah 61:1  The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2  To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Remember, after the temptation, Jesus went in the power of the Spirit. In our text He states the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him.

Notice the words that were read, He came to the meek (poor - in spirit), to the brokenhearted, to the captives, to those in prison and blind to those who are bound.

Are you meek, brokenhearted, maybe captive to sin and imprisoned by sin, and bound to sin? Jesus came to redeem you from all that. He came to the meek, the humble to save their souls. Are you blind, blind to your need of Jesus?

Would you let Jesus save your soul and make you free? for ye shall be free indeed.

Those who are proud and self-righteous, are blind and see no need of Jesus, when in fact they are in the greatest need of salvation.

2Corinthians 4:3  But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Christian, are you fallen back under sin, are you bound by the sin of this world through modern philosophies, and deceit called the rudiments of this world? You too can be set free through Jesus. Romans 6:14a  “For sin shall not have dominion over you:”

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
