Morning Devotion: Read Luke

Luke 4:38  And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. 39  And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them. 40  Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. 41  And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ. 42  And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. 43  And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. 44  And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.

Jesus, the great physician heals many. The greatest malady that man needs to be healed from is the sickness of sin. Sin brings sickness. Yes, for all have sinned and from that sin death follows.

James 1:15b … and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

All the following verses, are verses for the healing of sin. In our text Jesus healed the physical and they wanted Jesus to stay with them. Who wouldn’t? If Jesus could be our great physician physically why not keep Him around?

What they really needed was spiritual healing.

Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Isaiah 53:5  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

1Peter 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Psalm 103:3  Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

When they tried to keep/stay Jesus, He said something very important. Luke 4:43  And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. 44  And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.

His purpose was to redeem mankind on calvary’s cross. On the way He preached salvation, the kingdom of God and yes, He healed people to reveal His power to forgive.

Do you realize, one cannot be a part of the kingdom of God without Jesus. One cannot be a part of the family of God without Jesus. One cannot be a part of the kingdom of heaven without Jesus.

Mark 1:15  And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Matthew 4:17  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Everybody wants the physical healings, nobody wants to die, that is why we have doctors, medicine, surgeries, and the like. But, how many want spiritual healing? Ultimately it comes down to spiritual healing for without that no one will enter into God’s kingdom.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
