Morning Devotion; Read Luke

Luke 5:1  And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2  And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3  And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4  Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5  And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6  And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

Luke 5:8  When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

More often than not the Lord blesses us. Do we recognize the blessing of God or do we simply take God’s blessing for granted? Do we think that God owes us and should bless us?

The Lord, at the beginning of His ministry, approaches Peter and seeks use of His fishing boat. He tells Peter to go out a bit, and there upon the water Jesus taught the people.

Notice, Peter, being obedient, did as the Lord asked. He did not ask questions or argue he just launched out and let the Lord do His bidding. Peter did not ask for money or rent for the use of his boat. He did not use an excuse saying I don’t have time for this or it is inconvenient; he let the Lord have His way.

Notice, after the Lord was finished speaking to the people He told Peter to go out a little further and let down his net. Peter did as was instructed. Guess what!, Peter caught a lot of fish; he caught so much fish that the net broke.

God blessed Peter after he was obedient, after Peter did as the Lord asked.

We find here that God blesses the doing. God blesses the work of the Lord.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Hebrews 12:3  For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Christian, is serving the Lord inconvenient to you? Do you find excuses to do other things rather than what the Lord asks? Is God your priority?

When people say “I don’t have time for that;” what they really mean is God is not my priority.” We all have the same time, we don’t all have the same priorities. Would you make God your priority?

Romans 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
