Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Reporting to Jesus.
Luke 9:10 And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
In verses one through six, Jesus commissioned the twelve and gave them great power and authority. They were to go out and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and repentance.
In verse ten of our text they came back and reported to Jesus of all they had done. Reporting to Jesus, what a novel idea.
We can do that, we can report to Jesus. It is called prayer. Have you ever pillowed your head at night and while gently drifting off to sleep, you report to Jesus. Maybe saying something like “Lord I did what you asked of me today”, “or Lord thank you for your help today,” or Lord bless my actions that I gave to you today.”
And then, drifting off to sleep with Jesus on your mind only to wake up and report to Jesus again maybe seeking marching orders for that new day. Yes, a novel idea indeed.
I am reminded of Saul the tetrarch who persecuted those of that way, meaning the believers in Christ Jesus. After meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus He asks the question, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?
Acts 9:1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
He was told to meet with Ananias who was instrumental in Saul receiving his eyesight.
Acts 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
Then Saul, in the power of the Holy Ghost, was to preach to the gentiles, to those who were not Jewish people.
Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
Guess what Saul/Paul did? He did what God asked. He received marching orders and completed them as requested.
Christian, do you seek to know the will of God, do you seek to perform all the God asks of you.
Do you report back to the Lord in sweet prayer knowing you did what was right with God.
2Corinthians 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
The choice is still yours,
