Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Feeds Five Thousand
Luke 9:11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. 12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. 13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. 14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. 15 And they did so, and made them all sit down. 16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
Jesus always fulfilled the Word of God. He never violated, twisted or turned in anyway the Word of God. He fulfilled the volume of the book.
I am reminded of what James said: James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Old Testament principle is stated: Proverbs 3:27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. 28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
In our text we see Jesus who had at least five thousand people who came for healing and to see the miracles of the Lord to the point where they neglected their own welfare.
Jesus seeing their need took care of the problem. He had the capacity and the wherewithal to do so. He fed them with five small buns and two fishes.
As your read the account you find that the Lord blessed and brake the bread for all to eat. I would loved to have been there. Whether the bread was multiplied as Jesus broke the bread or it was multiplied as it was distributed would have been a wonderful things to see.
Jesus saw the need and met the need. We see this in Matthew 14, Mark 6 and John chapter 6 as well.
He did the same thing in 2 Kings 4 with a widow woman’s oil being multiplied and the and the sons of the prophets and their bread being multiplied. We see this with the widow woman of Zarephath in I kings 14 where her cooking oil and flour did not cease.
All throughout the scriptures we see God meeting the needs of his people with great and mighty power. It is nothing for God to multiply and provide for by Him all things consist. He is the creator of all things and can certainly do with the things He has created.
Christian, would you see that you can trust in the Lord to meet your needs?
The very first need of mankind is salvation. Would you trust the Lord to save your soul? Then, after salvation, watch God meet your need.
The choice is still yours,
