Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Prophesied His Death
Luke 9:21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing; 22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
Jesus Prophesied His Death Again
Luke 9:43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, 44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. 45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.
After Jesus asked “Whom say the people that I am?” He spoke of His death at the hands of men and of His resurrection.
Then in verses forty three through forty five he speaks of the same thing. However, this time it was after the mount of transfiguration experience and after the boy was healed of an unclean spirit.
There is a question to be asked here. Why did the Lord tell them not to say anything and why was it hid from the disciples and why could they not perceive? Didn’t the Lord want everyone to know and be saved?
Is there a contradiction in the bible?
Why did John write: John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Answer: There is no contradiction; it all comes down to timing. God’s plan is perfect. Jesus knew He had to go to the cross. He had to go to the cross at the precise time. We will see more about that around the (Easter Holiday) what is really called Resurrection Sunday which is April 20 this year.
At this point in our text Jesus’ hour had not yet come. John 7:30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
At the perfect time Jesus would be betrayed into the hands of men and God’s perfect timing would be accomplished.
Luke 22:52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves? 53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
It was all with God’s timing and it all leads to salvation.
Peter reveals God’s plan in: Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
What Jesus prophesied came to fruition in perfect timing.
There are other times in God’s plan, one is your salvation, the other is judgement.
Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
Now is the time to act, now is the time to trust in Jesus and be saved. Don’t wait.
Note: What John wrote in John 20:31 was after the fact of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. Timing is everything. Don’t wait.
The choice is still yours,
