Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Peter Confesses Jesus is the Christ
Luke 9:18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? 19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. 20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
Do you know who Jesus is? In Luke nine Peter and the other disciples are asked what the people say about Jesus. Peter confesses that Jesus is the Christ. The same question is asked in Matthew chapter sixteen.
Matthew 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
The name of Christ means the anointed one, the one sent, the messiah. Yes, my friend, Jesus is the anointed one, the messiah, the saviour of the world.
How soon we forget, that is what was heralded by the angels at His birth.
Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Even the devils proclaim that Jesus is Christ.
Luke 4:41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.
The devils know yet, they are not saved. James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
There are people who know about the Christ through mental or historical capacity and those who know through the heart or spirit.
Mental capacity is nothing more than facts. One may know the facts of Christ but never have a relationship with Christ Jesus because they have never believed with their heart. That, my friend, is the spiritual aspect.
Peter tells us in the book of John this truth. John 6:69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
Believing is the key.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
(The confessing part is simply telling God what is going on in the heart.)
The Lord tells us in 1 John that not everyone believes Jesus is the Christ.
1John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:…
Jesus means, Jehovah is salvation (God is the saviour). Christ means, anointed one. There you have it, Jehovah is the anointed one. Jesus is God, the anointed one come in the flesh to save the world. Would you believe?
The choice is still yours,
