Morning Devotion: Read 2 Corinthians - The Cheerful Giver
2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
Chapters eight and nine are about giving to the saints or missionaries who minister about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Giving in this capacity is to prove the sincerity of your love God and to those who have given their lives to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul the Apostle certainly fits this category.
In our text we find that one gives as they purpose in their heart. If you have no purpose or little purpose for the things of God you will give little if anything at all.
Notice it also says that “God loveth a cheerful giver”. God loves you as you give cheerfully. It is like a parent who loves their child that does right; they look upon that child with love as they are pleased with the child’s action.
That phrase “cheerful giver” does not mean to give only if it makes you happy. There are a lot of people who are happy not giving at all. It that they are cheerful but without God’s love toward them.
We also see that God supplies the need of the giver and blesses that which is sown or given.
2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
When you minister seed to the one who sows the seed, the missionary, God, in return, ministers to you.
We find the same promise in Philippians. When Paul received an offering from the dear saints in the church he responded with a
God’s blessing in return.
Philippians 4:18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Dear saint, dear believer, you cannot out give God. Give and watch God bless.
The choice is still yours,
