Morning Devotion: Read Luke - The Mount of Transfiguration

Luke 9:28  And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29  And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. 30  And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: 31  Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. 32  But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33  And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. 34  While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35  And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 36  And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.

This event called the Mount of Transfiguration is also recorded in Matthew 17 and Mark 9.

We are allowed to see what Peter and James and John saw.  While we see the event in word picture, one day we will see our glorified Lord in reality.

These guys were there when Moses and Elias (Elijah) spoke with Jesus.  Luke 9:31  Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

As we have said before, God has everything planed for the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, for you, that you might be saved.

Hebrews 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

“Who for the joy that was set before him” is you. You are the joy of the Lord. In fact there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels over every person who is saved. You are the reason for all of Jesus’ efficacious work and the shedding of His blood on the cross.

I would have loved to have heard that conversation with Moses and Elias. I will one day know what they said. I believe God will let us know all about it heaven.

He let us know much about the event and much truth in His wonderful word which is exalted above His name.

Psalm 138:2b… for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Notice the words of God when He spoke. Luke 9:35  And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

We know Jesus, the living Word of God gave us the written word of God called the bible. While many want to be enthralled by the miracles and the transfiguration (Even Peter was caught up and wanted to build tabernacles, dwelling places.) the important thing to remember is God’s word.

Peter tells us that God’s word is more important than miracles and anomalies and transfigurations.

2Peter 1:16  For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17  For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18  And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 19  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Did you see that, Peter said there is something more sure, more reliable than miracles, it is the word of God.

The devil will deceive you will miracles, the is why it is so important to read, rely and rest upon the word of God.

Revelation 13:14  And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

One important truth that everyone needs to know is this: John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
