Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Whom shall we fear?

Luke 12:4  And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5  But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. 6  Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? 7  But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

The man that cannot see beyond his nose is the man that has an ignorant view of eternity. The Lord tell us that all souls are His.

Ezekiel 18:4  Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

From the moment you are born you are destined to exist forever. Those who know Lord have eternal life and those who do not know the Lord will have an eternal death. The body is a temporary dwelling for the soul.

For the believer we know that while we are here in our bodies we are absent from the Lord and when we leave this body we are present with the Lord.

2Corinthians 5:6  Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7  (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8  We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

The wonderful thing about the Lord is that He is well aware of our status here on earth and while we are absent from the Lord in physical bodies we are present with the Lord because the Spirit of God dwells within each born again believer.

We also know that our great and wonderful God watches over us.

Luke 12:6  Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? 7  But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

As our heavenly Father watches over the least of the sparrows we take solace in knowing He watches over us.

Psalm 139:1 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2  Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 3  Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4  For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. 5  Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. 6  Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me” is a phrase we should never let loose in our hearts and minds for God is always watching over His beloved.

There is great peace in choosing the fear of the Lord and there is great comfort in the relationship established by that fear.

Psalm 19:9  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
