Morning Devotion: Read Genesis

Genesis 37:1  And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan. 2  These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. 3  Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. 4  And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him. 5  And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. 6  And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: 7  For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. 8  And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. 9  And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. 10  And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? 11  And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

Joseph was a teenager used of God and loved by his father Jacob who is Israel. Joseph had a couple of dreams that infuriated his brothers. The dreams spoke of his brothers bowing before Joseph implying that Joseph would rule over them. Along with Joseph being daddy’s boy, they hated him for it. After all, who was he to say they would bow before him?

While his father rebuked Joseph for voicing the dreams he still kept them and observed the saying or dreams.

There was another person who observed or pondered or kept such things as well. Her name was Mary the mother of Jesus.

There was great rejoicing after the angels at night, brought the news of Jesus’ birth to the shepherds and they spread the news and many heard.

Luke 2:16  And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17  And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18  And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

Luke 2:19  But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

A second time was when Jesus as a young lad was in the temple speaking with the priest. His thought he was lost and went to seek him.

Luke 2:46  And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47  And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48  And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49  And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? 50  And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

Luke 2:51  And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

The point is this; we are often rash and judge things too quickly maybe even becoming irrational in our judgement not knowing what lies ahead.

Joseph’s brothers were irrational and sold him into slavery hoping to be rid of him. To perpetrate their conspiracy they fabricated a lie to their father Jacob.

When it comes to end time prophecies (that which is being foretold) people are often irrational mixing that with unbelief they try to negate the truth. Paul says, don’t judge until the time.

1Corinthians 4:5  Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

If God’s word says it will happen, it will happen.

Isaiah 55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

The Lord promised salvation to all who believe, yet, there are those who will not believe and irrationally reject truth. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. Will you believe or will you dismiss God’s promise?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
