Morning Devotion: Read I Timothy
1Timothy 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
Paul encourages young Timothy to follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness all while fighting the good fight of faith.
He was encouraged to have a good profession before all that see him. He was to keep the commands without spot and unrebukable until Jesus returns.
Then Paul gives great praise to the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the blessed and only potentate, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus is immortal and is all light. He has honour and power everlasting.
Can you imagine, within your own heart, how important it is to follow righteousness, and godliness, and faith, and love, and patience, and meekness in light of the glory of God?
My friend, there is no greater purpose, nor greater aspiration, no greater desire or goal that one could ever seek then to please our everlasting creator the Lord Jesus Christ.
How about you, do you follow righteousness? Are you godly? Do you have faith and love (not tolerance) and patience?
These are qualities that not only Timothy was instructed to have but all those who profess the name of Jesus Christ.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
What are your aspirations and desires in life? When people see you do they see these good and godly things in your life?
The choice is still yours,
Pastor Cook
