Morning Devotion: Read 2 Thessalonians
2 Thessalonians 1:3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; 4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:
Paul makes mention of this one issue of love with this little church. The word Charity is another word for love.
1 Thessalonians 1:2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; 3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
Paul writes in verse 3 that their thanks to God was for this church’s growing faith and abounding love. He said, “as it is meet.” It was appropriate because their faith and love justified it. Their faith and love grew and abounded so much that all glorified God and gave thanks for it.
Not only did they thank God but they lauded it gloried in God’s love in the churches round about them.
They thanked God for their growing faith and abounding love in the midst of persecutions and tribulations.
What does your faith reveal about you?
What does your love reveal about you?
What does your patience reveal about you?
Without question, saving faith produces love in the believer. The believer will love the brethren regardless of status or position or situation in life. In other words, I will love you no matter what. You will love one another no matter what.
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
Do not get love mixed-up with tolerance for tolerance accepts sin and love admonishes sin so that the sinner can repent and be right with a loving God.
2 Thessalonians 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. 15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
This dear church was known for their outreach and love and faith in the midst of tribulation.
What are you known for?
The choice is still yours,
