Morning Devotion: Read Luke  - Do Not Worry

Luke 12:22  And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. 23  The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. 24  Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? 25  And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? 26  If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? 27  Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? 29  And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. 30  For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. 31  But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. 32  Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33  Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. 34  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

It is true that we all need sustenance and clothing and a roof over our heads. These are the things that the nations seek after; all men seek after. But for the child of God there should be a trust in God to provide such things as we need.

The Lord Jesus is teaching His disciples, (His disciples) that they need to trust Him to meet their needs. In verse 28 he says “O ye of little faith” because we tend to worry and be anxious over things that God takes pleasure in providing.

Luke 12:32  Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

It is also true that the born again believer has a relationship with God as sons and daughters of God and God expects us to use what He has given us and not to embrace indolence but rather work and trust.

The birds of the field do not lay around and wait for food to be dropped in their lap, they go about find that which God provides. Likewise, we as children of the kingdom of God trust God to provide what we need while we use what He has given us to meet that need.

In other words, if a man doesn’t work he should not eat.

2Thessalonians 3:10  For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

The answer to the issue of providence with God is seeking God.

Luke 12:31  But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew enhances the issue even further. Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Seek the kingdom of God FIRST, before anything else. In other words put God first in your life, seek God first.

Remember the farmer in the previous passage, he sought his stuff first. In both passages we are taught to seek the kingdom of God first, not our stuff. God takes pleasure is providing for us.

Know this, when we seek God first and we pray for what we need, God answers with “my pleasure.” It’s my pleasure to provide for you my child.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
