Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Build Your House on the Solid Rock

Luke 6:46  And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47  Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48  He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49  But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

The question of why has prevailed again. Why do people call Jesus Lord, Lord and do not do what He says?

Is the term Lord, Lord just a slogan, a phrase, a name dropped for prestige or privilege or to make one feel good?

To the believer, Lord, Lord is a term of endearment; it is a name above every name and a name cherished by those who have that close personal relationship with Jesus. It is the name of our Saviour who gave His all that we might be His. He is our redeemer who saved us from sin and death and hell. He is Lord.

There are many who call Jesus Lord, Lord and do not the things that He says, claiming to be Christian and are Christian at all.

Jesus said in Matthew 7:21  “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

What is the will of the Father as stated in Matthew 7:21?

Jesus said in John 6:40  “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

The life built on the rock is built on the Rock the Lord Jesus Christ. When the rains and storms of life assail and the winds of life become tempestuous the believer has a Rock to stand upon. That rock is Christ.

1Corinthians 10:4  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

The Lord knows those who are truly His.

John 10:27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

You can say you know Jesus, but does Jesus know you?

Luke 6:46  And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Obedience is a good indicator of relationship.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
