Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Raises a Widow's Son
Luke 7:11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. 12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. 14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. 15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. 16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. 17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
God, who created life, has the power to take life and restore life. The miracles of the Lord are recorded throughout the scriptures. God made man of the dust of the ground He can certainly raise, man from the dead.
In I Kings 17, Elijah, through the power of God, raises a widow women’s son from the dead.
Paul in Acts 20, Paul embraces a young man and he, by the power of God, is raised to life.
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord.
Jesus Himself has the power to give life and to take life even of Himself.
John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
Jesus said in Matthew 28 that all power was given unto Him. He has the power to give power, the power of the Holy Spirit to those in the upper room in Acts 2.
He has the power to give each and every person new life in Christ. The Lord raised this girl from the dead to prove He has the power to give new life, not just physical life, but eternal life.
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
That new life is called being Born-Again. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Are you born again? Do you have new life in Christ?
The choice is still yours,
