Morning Devotion: Read Exodus

Exodus 32:1  And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. 2  And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. 3  And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. 4  And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.  5  And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. 6  And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

Exodus 32:25  And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)

As we read this account of Israel and what they did while Moses was upon the mount receiving the ten commandments of God and the instructions for making the Holy things for the worship of God, we find a great fickleness and deviation from God.

Israel, within the space of forty days, turned from God to idol worship. Aaron had made them a golden calf. When that calf was finished they set it up and claimed it was the god that led them out of Egypt.

After experiencing and seeing the plagues God placed upon Egypt and after experiencing and seeing God provide for them food and water and sustenance after seeing and experiencing the power of God just prior to Moses ascending up the mount to speak with God, these people turned to worship idols.

How fickle and how shallow man can be when to comes to God and the things of God.

Did you notice, they rose to play and they made themselves naked. Much of the modern worship today is with playing and nakedness. People running around and with flags and dance and pomp not knowing it is repulsive to God. I have seen “worship teams” on platforms (no longer called pulpits) dancing and playing music with shorts and midriffs revealing their bodies while swaying to music and calling it worship.

This is not worship, it is nothing more than what Israel did dancing and playing and getting naked before a false god.

Be very careful of what you call worship, it may be nothing more than an emotional experience giving a false sense of relationship with God while embracing sin.

God and sin do not go together.

Matthew 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Jesus came to save people from their sins not in their sins.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
