Morning Devotion: Exodus 24

Exodus 24:8  And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words. 9  Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: 10  And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. 11  And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink. 12  And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.

God had given Moses the law (the ten commandments) and certain instructions of the law and for the tabernacle.

In verse eight the law was ratified with the blood of the lamb. All this pictures the Lord Jesus Christ shedding His blood and fulfilling the law of God with His own body and life.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Revelation 12:10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Revelation 7:13  And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14  And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

All through the scriptures you will find Jesus Christ and reference to the blood of the lamb.

In our text the Israelites were just beginning their journey of freedom. The Lord was now giving them instruction by which they can see God. Every Old Testament sacrifice was a picture of Christ and His efficacious work and shed blood on Calvary’s cross.

Exodus 24:9  Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: 10  And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. 11  And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

All these men went up to the mount of God and had a ceremonial dinner before God. During that dinner, they saw a vision of God. They did not see God for no man can see God.

John 1:18  No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

If there is any portion of God to see it is Jesus. 1Timothy 3:16  And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Adam saw Jesus in the garden. Abraham saw Jesus in the plains of Mamre. These are appearances of Jesus in the Old Testament. Yup, Jesus wasn’t just a babe in the manger, He is God manifest in the flesh. He has always been here. Wrap your mind around that.

There you have it, Jesus is the Lamb of God and Jesus is God manifest in the flesh.

My friend, it is all about Jesus. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
