Morning Devotion: Read Luke - The Parable of the Sower
Luke 8:4 And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: 5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. 6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. 8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
The Purpose of the Lord’s Parables
Luke 8:9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be 10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
Matthew 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. 13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Jesus often spoke in parables. A parable is an earthly example of a heavenly truth. The earthly example cannot completely cover all of heaven’s truth but is used to convey a truth to those who are willing to hear.
In other words, a parable is given to the teachable. Those who are unteachable cannot or will not understand. I have met many unteachable people in the ministry, you just can’t tell them anything because they “already know it all,” if you know what I mean. The Lord gives them line upon and precept upon precept but they cannot understand.
As said in Matthew 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
They see the words, but cannot see the truth of the meaning of the words, spiritually speaking. They hear the words but cannot understand what they mean because they are unteachable in heart and mind. If they should truly understand and not trust, they increase their own condemnation, so, the Lord speaks in parables.
Isaiah 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
Isaiah 28:13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
You see, to whom much is given, much is required.
Do you hear with a desire to truly know; are you teachable? Do you read with a desire to truly understand are you teachable?
Are you willing to trust in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved?
The choice is still yours,
