Morning Devotion: Read Isaiah

Isaiah 28:14  Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem. 15  Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: 16  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. 17  Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. 18  And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

You cannot make an agreement with death nor with God to escape death. You have no control over such things.

Have you ever heard someone say something like: “I have made a deal with God?” or, “me and the man upstairs have an understanding?” My friend, such talk is blasphemy.

My friend, you are in big trouble if you think you can command or make a deal with God. His ways are not your ways and His thoughts are not your thoughts. He is Holy and Righteous, you are not. Your arrogance will be your ruin. Your supposed agreement will be disannulled and your agreement with hell shall not stand. You will perish.

There is only one agreement that God knows and will honour, that is Jesus the chief cornerstone.

Isaiah 28:16  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

You reject the chief cornerstone and it will crush you.

Luke 20:17  And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? 18  Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

1Peter 2:6  Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7  Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8  And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

Humbly casting yourself on the chief cornerstone is salvation while pridefully rejecting it is to be crushed by it. That rock is Jesus, yes, He’s the one.

You cannot make a “deal” with God.

Proverbs 16:18  Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
