Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 21:9  It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

Proverbs 21:19  It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

God’s plan for marriage is that the man and woman be married in a sweet union under His perfect will. When the man is obedient to God and living for the Lord according to His word he will see others through the lens of God’s word.

When the woman is obedient to God and living for the Lord according to His word she will be see others through the lens of God’s word.

When both are in tune with the Lord and living in obedience, there will be a harmonious outcome.

In the dating process, or the courtship process, both the man and the woman are evaluating each other to insure each are doing what God had intended. However, the eyes of infatuation, or because one is caught up in “puppy” love, may become blind to the true nature of their future prospect and overlook the flaws. The result is a marriage that is full of chaos, argument and brawl.

As we look through the word of God we will find several people have made the wrong choice and married the brawling woman and it cost them.

Job married a woman who told him to curse God and die.

David married a woman (who was king Saul’s daughter) laughed at him for serving the Lord.

In my personal ministry I have dealt with couples who have had tumultuous relationships; in each case, one or both have had a pride problem. Pride is the culprit of such brawling, or disrespect or deviation from fidelity.

In our verses today, we find a strong admonition. It is better to not marry such a person than to live with a wrong choice. It is better to live alone than to marry such a person.

Proverbs 21:9  It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

Proverbs 21:19  It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Remember, marriage is until death do you part. Once you have made the decision to marry such a person, you are tide to that situation for life. Make sure you know to whom your are giving your life.

The right marriage is one that is in Christ Jesus, where both the man and the wife are born again and serving the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 5:22  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24  Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28  So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29  For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33  Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
