Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 20:11  Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

Children, for the most part, are happy. They run and play and have very little to do but to be happy.

However, each child has their own idiosyncrasies and characteristics that define them.

We must also remember that each child, no matter how good they seem, were born in sin. You do not have to teach a child to be naughty or to lie or to deceive. Children begin to do this as a very young age. You do not have to teach a child to be stingy and grabby and selfish.

In the context of our verse we find that the emphasis is on the good of the child, the purity of the child and rightness of the child.

Our Lord Jesus Christ knows the intrinsic makeup of each child because He formed them.

Psalm 139:14  I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15  My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16  Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 17  How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

With that in mind we find that God uses the purity of the child and the rightness of the child to give us a very good illustration.

Luke 18:16  But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 17  Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

In their innocence, a child will gladly and happily come to Christ. In fact the Lord tells us that every person should come to Him in the same manner as a child.  “Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.”

A Child in their purity and innocence will come to Christ fully trusting in Him.

It is when that child, or older person has been corrupted by other influences that he or she will refuse the Lord.

Did you know, the Lord gives a curse to those who influence children against coming to Christ and offends those children who are already little believers?

Matthew 18:4  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5  And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6  But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Will you be as a child when it comes to salvation, will you gladly come to Christ?

You are already known by your doings whether they be pure and whether they be right.

Proverbs 20:11  Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
