Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 20:6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? 7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him. 8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes. 9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Most men will proclaim their goodness especially when it comes to justification with God.
We all have a tendency to embellish how good we are and bragging on the accomplishments of our lives. When asked about eternal life and whether one knows whether they are going to heaven or not most will answer, “I’ve been baptized” or “I go to church.” Some will speak of what they do at their church or how much they love the Lord etc. Very few will admit how unworthy they are and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ.
Some believe that God weighs the good people do against the bad things they do. They believe their good will outweigh their bad and God will allow them into heaven. This is a false belief.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
I know of a man who works in a grocery store as a manager. The store is loaded with cameras. He reports of one man who had an assignment for a specific job to be done. The camera showed he had only accomplished part the work. When questioned he bragged on how good his work was. When he was shown his work via the recording, he admitted he was lazy.
While most will proclaim their own goodness it is the king that scatters away all evil with his eye, with the eye of scrutiny. My friend, no thought, no actions, nothing goes without notice with Jesus who is the true King of Kings. Not only does He see everything, He is keeping record. Just like the grocery store, everything is being recorded.
Verse 9 tells us that there is no one who can make their hearts clean and be pure from sin.
Job 14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
There is only one who can make you clean. There is only one who can forgive you your sins and make you righteous.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Don’t try to proclaim your own goodness, there is none. Proclaim the goodness of God that leads you to repentance.
Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
The choice is still yours,
