Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 27:15  A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. 16  Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.

As a roof that leaks every time it rains continuing with its drip, drip, dripping sound irritating those who live there so is the contentious one who never stops.

To hide such a one is to hide the wind which is impossible to do. No one has ever hidden the wind. It is impossible to hide the perfume of the hand that is coated with ointment. All such attempts simply produce betrayal.

Over the years I have met couples who are like this proverb; they have a volatile life always bickering and snarling and snapping at one another with little or no relief in sight. These types of marriages usually end up in shambles.

Proverbs 12:4  A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 14:1  Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Ephesians 5:22  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Ephesians 5:33  Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

1 Peter 3 verses 1-10 and Ephesians chapter 5 will help both members of this equation. These chapters cover both the husband and the wife’s roles in a good marriage.

A good marriage should be like the Lord Jesus Christ and His church.

Ephesians 5:32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

How are you doing in your relationship with your spouse, are you the contentious one with the nattering spirit like the leaky roof that incessantly drips?
