Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 27:20  Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

The eyes, or the want, or the covetousness of man is never satisfied for he has an insatiable desire for more.

As a trout fisherman I know that trout will continue to eat worms until the worms are protruding from their gills and still they will eat more. It is uncanny how they continue to eat even when full. So is man who has an unsatisfied desire for more. So are the eyes of man.

The more man has the more man wants. The infamous John D. Rockefeller, when asked: “How much money does it take to make one happy? replied, Just one more dollar.”

1John 2:15  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

King David gives us a wonderful example of where true satisfaction comes from

Psalm 63:1  A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; 2  To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. 3  Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. 4  Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. 5  My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: 6  When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. 7  Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

Isaiah 55:2  Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

My friend, we all need sustenance to exist, we all desire to have that which is good. However, true satisfaction comes from the Lord.

There is nothing wrong with prosperity if prosperity does not take your eyes off of the Lord.

Colossians 3:1  If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3  For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4  When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Be prosperous but, be more prosperous in Christ Jesus.
