Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 27:22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
A mortar and pestle is a very useful tool for grinding grain, or beating coffee grounds and such the like. A good stone mortar and pestle works best.
God’s word tells us that the fool, the one who does not know God, lives in foolishness.
Even if you were to bray or pound such a one in mortar and pestle he will not change. That is a very sad commentary.
Please be reminded, just because a person calls himself or herself a Christian, does not mean they are.
Jesus explains such in: Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
What is the will of God the Father in heaven spoken about in Matthew?
Jesus gives the answer in the book of John. John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
The will of the God the Father is that everyone recognizes (seeth) the Son and believes on Him will be saved and be heaven bound. Those who don’t won’t.
Jesus also said His believers should be preaching and teaching repentance and remissions of sins through the gospel, the good news of salvation. That is the application of the mortar and pestle.
Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Mark 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
The fool, whether religious or not, will not listen even if the mortar and pestle of God’s word was applied.
Jesus is the mortar and pestle, He said so in Luke chapter 20.
Luke 20:17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? 18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
Whosoever will fall upon Jesus in repentance and humility does so in brokenness leading to salvation. Whosever does not, will be broken and ground to powder in judgment.
