Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 28:6  Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

What is uprightness? “Honesty; integrity in principle or practice; conformity to rectitude and justice in social dealings.

The truly upright man is inflexible in his uprightness.” Websters dictionary 1828

In morality, and principle of righteousness of mind and heart a person a Christian lives for God.

By the way, perfect rectitude belongs to God the only absolute truth.

Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life.”

The closer we get to God the more uprightness, operating in rectitude, we become. The divine standard is the goal. We can neither achieve that or attempt to obtain the without the Lord.

Proverbs 28:6  Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Being wealthy does not always mean one is upright, it just means one has obtained wealth. No matter what your status in life happens to be, the person who is upright is the person who is the better according to the Lord.

David, who was very wealthy said in Psalm 25:21  “Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.”

Psalm 143:10  Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

I believe Isaiah expresses the idea of uprightness or the lack thereof when it comes to ones walk with God.

Isaiah 26:7  The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just. 8  Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. 9  With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. 10  Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD. 11  LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them. 12  LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.

Uprightness comes from the Lord.

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The choice is still yours,
