Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Exodus
Exodus 12:30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. 31 And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said. 32 Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also. 33 And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We be all dead men. 34 And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. 35 And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: 36 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians. 37 And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children. 38 And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.
How often and how soon does man forget the words of God? The LORD said He would harden Pharaoh’s heart that He would not let Israel go.
Exodus 4:21 And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
The Lord also said Israel would spoil the Egyptians taking from them their riches.
Exodus 3:22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.
Imagine for a moment the terror of the night as the Lord passed through Egypt finding the houses with no blood on the door casing. Imagine the destroyer entering in to destroy the first born child, adolescent or man of each home.
Imagine the horror and screams and lamentation of those who discovered the truth of God’s word.
The LORD said He would not enter the homes of those who were under the blood. Now, Imagine the families who most likely stayed up all night trusting and watching and waiting and finding God was right and they were safe. Imagine the hearts relief as they realized they were safe and secure in the promises of God.
Imagine the urgency of Pharaoh as he called for Moses demanding they leave and take all their stuff with them believing in his heart that they were all dead men.
Imagine all the Egyptians being afraid and with urgency giving Israel everything they had, everything from jewels to clothes and everything they required for their journey, they also believing they were all dead men.
Imagine the haste to get rid of the Israelites from their presence to save their own lives.
Now, imagine the Egyptians experiencing and doing all this and still not recognizing it was the LORD’s doing. That, my friend is the real tragedy.
Take a moment, if you will, and imagine your relationship with the Lord. What will your destiny be? What will your lot be for all eternity?
Imagine the horror or the blessing of your choice?
Luke 9:56a For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.
The choice is still yours,
