Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 28:8  He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

The person who uses extortion because of covetousness becomes vial in the eyes of the Lord.

We see the unjust, on many occasions, employ such tactics when they gouge others by the sale of their goods. The supply and demand created in crisis is often the scenario used for such gouging.

The same person is the person who by exorbitant usury (charging interest) becomes unjust. Credit cards are often the culprit for such gain when the banks charge high interest rates knowing most people cannot pay their debt they keep them dangling with interest payments.

God says this should not be, it is unjust. On the other hand, the Lord instructs us to be careful when it comes to debt.

Romans 13:8  Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

Buying without credit, paying the full amount for what you need, relieves you of debt.

Remember Proverbs 22:7  β€œThe rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”

There is a debt that all men owe, it is called the sin debt. While men spend their lives trying to pay this debt with religion they fail to realize there is one who paid the sin debt for them.

Romans 4:4  Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5  But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

I owed a debt I could not pay, Jesus paid a debt He did not owe. I am so grateful for the Lord Jesus Christ paying my sin debt on the cross of Calvary. As a result I am free from the sin debt.

John 8:36  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

There is a great and wonderful feeling when all your debts are paid and you are free from that which hangs over your head. Thus it is with the sin debt; in that freedom I can operate and live and rejoice in my Savour Jesus Christ. I no longer have to worry about my eternity. I know, one day, I will be in heaven with my Lord Jesus Christ and with God the Father.

What about you, would you let Jesus pay your sin debt?

Christian, if you are free from the sin debt, rejoice in it and live for the Lord.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
