Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 28:9  He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

There is no place in scripture where God has promised to answer prayer but to those who are upright in heart.

A person who refuses to hear the law of God, the Word of God, has no promise that God will even hear their prayer. It is vanity to think that you can refuse God and His law and then go to God when you need Him thinking He will answer your requests.

In fact, when such prayers are made, God says they are abomination to Him.

The word abomination means - Extreme hatred; detestation.

Proverbs 15:8  The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

Psalm 66:18  If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Everything is provided for a person order his steps with the Lord; beginning with salvation and living life, it’s all in God’s word. Those who refuse and yet seek God when they are in need are definitely in a sorry state.

Psalm 119:11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Psalm 118:19  Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD: 20  This gate of the LORD, into which the righteous shall enter. 21  I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.

The Lord will always hear the prayer of the repented heart seeking salvation. But, the prayer of those who refuse God and then go to God when they're sick or hurting or in need, never heeding His word are in a very sorry state.

Proverbs 28:9  He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

I cannot tell you how many times people on the internet and media call for prayers for a relative or child or friend while they live in sin. “Pray for me;” Pray for my son or daughter or mother or father etc. is the cry. But they don’t want anything to do with God otherwise.

Maybe they call for prayer because they believe God is Love and in that love God will overlook their sin and hear their prayer.

Proverbs 28:9  He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

God is love, in fact He loves you so much that He gave His only begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for your sin. What greater love can one have?

But, God is also righteous and Holy and cannot allow for sin.

You can fix the sin dilemma by realizing you are a sinner, repenting and turning to Jesus Christ to save your soul.

If you are willing to turn from sin with a repentant heart and be saved you can pray and seek the Lord to save your soul. Here is a simple prayer: “God I know that I am a sinner. I now repent of my sin and ask you to save my soul. I believe Jesus died for me on the cross and seek you to save me, in Jesus name I pray. Amen!

My friend, that prayer will always be heard by God.

The alternative is different.

Proverbs 28:9  He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

The choice is still yours,
