Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The First Born

Exodus 13:1  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2  Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine.

Exodus 13:11  And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee, 12  That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD’S. 13  And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem. 14  And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage: 15  And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.

The law of the first born was established for God’s glory. The firstborn of each family in Egypt was destroyed bringing an end to exalting all their false gods. All the first born in Egypt belonged to the gods of Egypt.

All through the scripture we see how important the firstborn male child was to each family and in the operation of worship.

There was to be sacrifice made for each firstborn child as that child was given to the Lord. Exodus 34:20b…. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.

When Jesus was born He was the firstborn of God through Mary.

Matthew 1:25  And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

Luke 2:7  And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Mary brought Jesus to the Temple to do with Him as was required by God.

Luke 2:22  And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; 23  (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) 24  And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

My friend, Jesus is the firstborn, the only begotten of God, sent for your redemption.

Jesus is our firstborn promise; everyone who places their faith in Christ has Christ as their own. He is our firstborn and our firstfruits making us His firstfruits.

Romans 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

James 1:18  Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

My dear friend are you a part of the firstborn and the firstfruits of God?

He is the first fruit of those resurrected. 1Corinthians 15:20  But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

He is the firstfruit of those raptured. 1Corinthians 15:23  But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

He is the firstborn of every believer. Colossians 1:14  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

He is the firstborn and head of the church and has the preeminence. (Not the pope.) Colossians 1:18  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence

Are you born again; are you the firstfruit of the firstborn, the only begotten of God?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
