Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Pillars of Cloud and Fire

Exodus 13:17  And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt: 18  But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt. 19  And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you. 20  And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. 21  And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22  He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

God tells us to do all thing decently and in order.

1Corinthians 14:40  Let all things be done decently and in order.

As you peruse through the scriptures you will find that God does everything decently and in order. It is very difficult to have order out of chaos. However, order can be destroyed and chaos can take over if you let it.

The heaven and earth was created in order. Life is maintained in order. There must be order to accomplish anything.  Without order, without an orderly plan nothing gets done.

Exodus 13:18  But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.

God led His people out of Egypt in an orderly fashion. They didn’t grab their stuff and run off in any direction to escape. There was a plan, it was God’s plan.

God’s people left Egypt “harnessed.”  That means they left in an orderly fashion.

When I was in school, we are taught that if the school had to be evacuated, the children were to meet in the back of the school in the ball field. There was accountability taken for each child to make sure no one was left inside the building. That’s evacuation with order.

The same thing happened here in our text.

Israel evacuated Egypt being led by a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day. They had order immediately, at the very beginning of their journey they had order.

The LORD guided them: Psalm 78:52  But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

We as believers ought to have order into our lives. That order, that guidance,  comes from the same source, the Lord.

We as born-again believers have the same guidance and order if we chose to accept it.

Psalm 31:3  For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

Psalm 32:8  I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Psalm 25:5  Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

2Corinthians 5:14  For the love of Christ constraineth us;

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Do you know why people live crazy lives? It is because they do not let the Lord lead them.

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

God led Israel out of Egypt in an orderly fashion. He will lead you if you are willing to follow.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
