Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - See the Salvation of the LORD

Exodus 14:13  And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14  The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. 15  And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: 16  But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 17  And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. 18  And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. 19  And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: 20  And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.

Filled with fear, crying to God and blaming Moses, Moses stilled the people.

I find it amazing that the man of God did not fail and cower because of the fickleness of the people who feared. Moses, instead of retaliating turn to those who accused and said, “stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.”

From verses thirteen through eighteen, the Lord told Moses what He was going to do with the Egyptian army.

God’s word never fails. Isaiah 55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

After giving Moses the promise and after Moses giving Israel the promise, the Lord began to work.

The angel of God and the pillar of cloud and fire moved between God’s people and the Egyptians.

Exodus 14:19  And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: 20  And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.

Do you know what stands be tween you and your safety and your eternal life?

The angel of God and the pillar of cloud and fire moved to protect God’s people. It moved at just the right time and in just the right place. It did not move early or late or in the wing place. It moved in perfect timing.

God’s timing may not be your timing; God’s timing is always perfect. The issue is whether or not you will trust in God’s timing and lean not unto your own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Our God who created everything, and by Him all things consist, is the same one who moves on the behalf of His own children.

The Lord did the same thing with Saul who persecuted the christians.

Acts 9:1  And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2  And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3  And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4  And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5  And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Notice, the Lord said: “why persecutest thou me?” When you trouble God’s people your trouble God. When that happens, look out.

My friend, trust God when things look bleak, He will be your help. The first step is trusting Jesus to save your soul.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
