Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Red Sea Waters Divided

Exodus 14:21  And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22  And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

Moses instructed Israel to stand still and see the salvation of the LORD. I’m sure they spent the night struggling with feelings, hearing the wind and seeing the pillar of fire and maybe even hearing the Egyptians and their threatening armies.

Just as they spent the night of the LORD’s judgment upon the Egyptians while their own homes were safe under the blood and the door posts so now they wait.

Imagine waking up in the morning hours and see a great phenomenon, the red sea standing in heaps on either side with a dry ground before you.

Imagine the first step on the dry ground in the midst of the sea. Imagine the timid step, trying and testing and stepping lightly only to find it was dry and hard and worthy to tread. That first step had to be a step of faith. The second step a step of faith and courage. And finally, the walk of great faith steady, trusting and moving forward in the power of God.

Imagine the rejoicing of it all as Israel walked out in the safety of God.

Psalms 66:6  He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.

Psalms 78:13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

Isaiah 51:15 But I am the LORD thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The LORD of hosts is his name.

Isaiah 63:12 That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name?

Exodus 14:23  And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24  And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, 25  And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians. 26  And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen. 27  And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28  And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them. 29  But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. 30  Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore. 31  And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

Certainly Israel saw the salvation of the LORD. Their enemies were destroyed and they were safe on dry land headed on a new journey with God.

Every time a person places their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, their feet are set in an even place, they are on dry solid ground and they embark on a new journey with the Lord Himself.

What journey are you on?

The choice is still yours,
