Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Eighth Plague: Locusts

Exodus 10:1  And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him: 2  And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD. 3  And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me. 4  Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast: 5  And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field: 6  And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh. 7  And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? 8  And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go? 9  And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD. 10  And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. 11  Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

This plague of locust is nothing new as far as locusts swarming and moving in clouds across the lands in the middle east. Having lived in the middle east, I have seen the locust and what they can do. Because of this fact, Pharaoh may not have seen this threat as a big concern.

Notice in verse one what God said and did. “I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants.”

My friend, all through this section of scriptures we find God hardening the heart of Pharaoh. Yes, God hardens the heart. God allows those who continually reject and refuse to come to Him to continue to do so. He will let people have their way. In fact, God will grant them their wish to the point where they cannot come to Him. In the book of Romans we see God turning such people over to reprobate minds so that they cannot be saved.

Romans 1:28  And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29  Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30  Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31  Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

God tells us in Galatians that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

My friend, as God hardened Pharaoh’s heart and gave him over to reprobate mind; He can do the same with anyone who continually turns from God. They “shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Pharaoh’s heart was so hard he could not see that Egypt was destroyed even after his own servants told him. Hardness of heart can blind one to the truth.

And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?”

Please, don’t allow your heart to become hardened against the Lord. God desires all men to be saved. But, He will let you have your way, He will let you have your way right out of the kingdom of God.

Take time to reason with God. Take time to look at the truth and don’t dispose of it altogether.

Isaiah 1:18  Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
