Morning Devotion:  Read Exodus - The Plague of Locust

Exodus 10:10  And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. 11  Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence. 12  And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left. 13  And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 14  And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. 15  For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

We need to understand the picture here. Moses demands that Pharaoh lets all the people, all the families, go so they may worship the LORD.

Pharaoh’s servants gave advice that he let only the men go. Exodus 10:7…. let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?

Pharaoh followed their advice saying only the men can go. Exodus 10:11  Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

Pharaoh refused the let the women and children go and it cost him.

After driving Moses from their presence, the locust came and covered the land, every green thing was consumed, and the land of Egypt, except Goshen, became a baron waist land. (God’s people were spared.)

Pharaoh, once again realized his sin and called for Moses to bring relief.

Exodus 10:16  Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you. 17  Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only. 18  And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD. 19  And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

Oh how often men and women realize their sin and seek forgiveness asking others to intreat for them. While they themselves never go to the LORD on their own.

We find that in the book of acts where Judas after betraying the Lord did not repent to God but repented unto himself.

Matthew 27:3  Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4  Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5  And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

Moses took away the locust, and Pharaoh, because he did not seek the LORD’s forgiveness but sought relief for his own predicament, changed his mind and heart again.  When the problem was resolved he once again hardened his heart and refused to let God’s people go.

Exodus 10:20  But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.

Do you play games with God? Do you waffle back and forth with God never really seeking God’s forgiveness letting others go to God for you while you sit in the shadows hoping for change? Are you aloof from God?

Would you, instead of being like Pharaoh and like Judas, go directly to God? Would you pray to God and let God know you are a sinner and seek His forgiveness? Would you trust the Lord Jesus Christ to save your soul. He is the only one who paid for your sin? He is the only mediator between God and you.

1Timothy 2:5  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6  Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

That my friend is a personal thing that each person must do to be saved. No one can go for you, you must go to the Lord Jesus yourself and personally seek His salvation and forgiveness.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
