Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs - Forget Not

Proverbs 3:1  My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4  So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 9  Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. 11  My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: 12  For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Forget not my law is the instruction given to the son. Wisdom embraces the law of the Lord. The law of the Lord, what is it? Answer: It is the word of God. Follow the law, the word of God, it will give you length of days and long life and peace.

Psalm 19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 8  The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10  More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11  Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

The greatest law of the Lord is this: Mark 12:30  And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31  And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Matthew 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38  This is the first and great commandment. 39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The very first sentence of this Proverb encourages us, prompts us, compels us, and even admonishes us to remember God’s word, and keep God’s word. The two greatest commandments are given; Love the Lord thy God and love your neighbour as yourself.

If you say you love God and do not the things He says, how can you truly say you love the Lord?

Proverbs 3:1  My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Do you want peace? The greatest peace comes from the Lord as described in the law of God, the bible.

As we draw closer to Christmas we find that God promises peace in the Lord Jesus Christ.

John the Baptist was sent to tell you and I about God’s peace which is found in Christ Jesus.

Luke 1:76  And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; 77  To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78  Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79  To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

When Jesus was born the angels said He is our peace. Luke 2:13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Jesus said He is our peace. John 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Romans 15:13  Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Proverbs 3:1  My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Length of days, long life, and peace, who could ask for anything more. We have eternal life in Christ, that’s a long life. We have peace in Christ, that’s true peace.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
