Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs - Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. 11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
When my children were little, we would place them up on a table or countertop and have them jump into our loving arms. They would shout with glee as they sailed through the air to our embrace. Do you know why? Because they trusted us to catch them. They had full assurance that We would catch them no matter what the circumstances or situation looked like. They knew they were safe. That is how we trust the Lord.
When things look precarious or circumstances look difficult, we trust in the Lord with ALL our heart. All means all, forsaking what seems and trusting what is.
It means we acknowledge God first in everything and before everything and in every decision and every circumstance of life. We let God direct our paths. He directs us through His word.
When we trust in the Lord wholly and without reservation, when we lean on Him and not our own thinking we will find God is always right. It will be health to our navel and marrow to our bones. The navel represents the core of the individual and the marrow is where the blood for the body is made. That means trusting in the Lord is a good and healthy thing to do.
Discouragement, mistrust, worry and fret are unhealthy things for our sprit, soul and body.
Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
When we come to the point where God directs our paths we will be happy and healthy. When things look difficult and/or you have to make hard choices, do so with God’s approval. Sail through the air with glee knowing He will catch you.
Matthew 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
If you have ever read the book of Job, you will find He had a lot of problems. Job lost his family, his wife was against him, his livelihood was lost and he was struck with life threatening boils all over his body and his friends accused him of wrong doing. That is the lowest of lows, yet, Job still trusted in the Lord.
Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
When you read the end of the book of Job, you will find that God brought Job through every trial and blessed him with twice as much as before.
Are you willing to trust in the Lord with all your heart even when you are chastened and tested?
Are you willing to take the first step in trusting the Lord? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and He will save you. That is the first step to trust.
The choice is still yours,
Pastor Cook
