Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 16:2  All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. 3  Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Most men proclaim their own goodness when in fact all men are sinners because they were born in sin.

Psalm 51:5  Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

2Timothy 3:1  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6  For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

As you review the above list you must ask, Are you a lover of yourself, or do you covet what others have are you jealous, do you boast about yourself, are you proud, do you blaspheme the name of God? Have you or are you disobedient to your parents, are unthankful thinking you deserve what you have? Are you unholy to God? Do you have an unnatural love? Do you break your word and accuse others to cover yourself? Are you unstable (incontinent) in your actions meaning you can’t be trusted? Are you an angry person and do you hate those who are good? Are a traitor? Do you think yourself to be above others? Do you love the pleasures of sin more than God. Do you have a form of godliness being religious and not born again? Have you ever lied?

When a man thinks himself to be clean He will use language describing himself as such. “Oh I’m not that bad.” Or “Oh, I’m not as bad as other that person.”

Instead of comparing themselves with the righteousness of God they compare themselves with others. When that happens they will always make themselves look better than the other person this concluding they aren’t that bad in the first place. After all look at so and so. God says, when you do that you are not very wise.

2Corinthians 10:12  For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Or they will simply say “Don’t judge me.” Expecting you to overlook their faults allowing for any sin that they conjure.

God wants you to be honest with yourself and with others. You are not as good as you portray yourself to be.

Psalm 51:6  Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

Proverbs 16:2  All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

The only way to be truly clean is to be born again trusting Jesus to save your soul.

Christian, are you living clean?

1John 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
