Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 14:15  The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. 16  A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

Proverbs 14:18  The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

Wha does the word simple mean? Weak in intellect; not wise or sagacious; silly. The simple believeth every word; but the prudent looketh well to his going. (Websters Dictionary)

Simplicity is that form of understanding that compels a person to move toward or believe things that are contrary to sound doctrine and sound or normal thinking according to the word of God. There are the simple and there are the wicked and the angry; there are the prudent and the wise each group is divided according to their nature.

Children are simple minded believing in many things that aren’t real. They look at things with concrete single mind and cannot see the abstract.

When we lived in Germany, I remember telling our children we were going to fly to America. My Son asked if we needed our capes. He thought we needed capes to fly like superman. He could not see the reality of flying, he was simple minded.

As a young man, I remember two guys telling me of the biggest brown trout they had ever seen. They said they hooked this trout and lost it but not before they caught a glimpse of its grandeur. They said it had spots the size of quarters. In my simplicity I believed them. One day I visited the konigsee lake in Germany; there in their museum, on display, was the world’s largest brown trout. That trout had little tiny spots on it ,just like a normal trout. I stood there staring at the mounted trout and marvelled at my simplicity in believing the tall tale given to me years earlier.

Now let’s put that in perspective.

We are told to mark them with cause or bring false teachings in our lives. This can be applied to any form of teaching whether it be spiritual, political or social.

Romans 16:17  Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. 19  For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

What you hear and what you see, whether it be from the pulpit or the television or internet, always compare it, evaluate it and look at it through the lens of God’s word, the KJV. Doing so will avoid the pitfall of simplicity. (Acts 17:11)

Jesus said deception would be prominent in the last days and many will fall to it by simplistic belief.

Matthew 24:4  And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6  And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

The ultimate deception for these end times is found in Revelation chapter thirteen.

Revelation 13:14  And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15  And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16  And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17  And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18  Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The choice is till yours,

Pastor Cook
