Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Proverbs 14:17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
Proverbs 15:18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
The book of Proverbs has much to say about the angry man and anger itself.
Anger and wrath and man are not a good mix.
Proverbs 12:16 A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.
Proverbs 14:29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
“WRATH, noun [Latin]
1. Violent anger; vehement exasperation; indignation; as the wrath of Achilles.
When the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased--Esther 2:1.
O Lord--in wrath remember mercy. Habakkuk 3:2.
2. The effects of anger. Proverbs 27:3.” (Websters Dictionary 1828))
Webster distinguishes between two different kinds of wrath and anger. The first is unfettered and vehement. The second is righteous indignation and a punishment against sin.
“3. The just punishment of an offense or crime. Romans 8:1.
Gods wrath in Scripture, is his holy and just indignation against sin. Romans 1:18.” (Webster’s Dictionary 1828)
(You can read about God’s just punishment and righteous wrath and indignation in the book of Revelation.)
The angry and wrathful man is only controlled by himself, if he is unsaved the restraints are null at best. They may control themselves because of the law of the land, when that law is flawed anger is unleashed by the elite or those who are in control such as the antichrist in the last days.
The Lord reminds us that there is controlled anger. Controlled anger is righteous indignation, never to be confused with the anger of the unsaved.
Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil.
The person who is slow to anger is the person who uses forethought and restraint giving in to the will of God.
Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
God tells us those who live in the Spirit are controlled be the Spirit and are temperate, meaning they are controlled by the Spirit of God.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
The fruit of the spirit is given by God and that by salvation in and through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
The choice is still yours,
