Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.
Here is another verse indicating the sovereignty of God. During bible times one would cast lots by using a bag with black stones and one white stone. When deciding who or what was to be done someone would reach into the bag and take a stone. A black stone indicated no and a white stone was yes.
When Jonah was fleeing from God on a ship and a storm came to destroy it the mariner cast lots find out who was causing the trouble. The lot came to Jonah.
Jonah 1:7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
Haman the Agagite cast lots to decide what day they would destroy Israel. We know that God delivered Israel from destruction. Read the book of Esther.
Esther 9:24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;
We also know that Israel cast lots to sell their children for sex and for food.
Joel 3:3 And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.
We have that today discovered in the Epstein files exposing those who operate in the darkness destroying lives in the process.
My friend, we must understand that man proposes and God disposes.
You can cast your lot and make decisions that go against God; just remember, God will be the one who disposes the final results.
One day, every lot cast and every decision that you or I make, will be brought before the Lord. Every lot cast will come before the Lord and He will dispose.
God may dispose immediately as the case with Jonah when he was found out and cast into the sea and a great fish, a whale, swallowed him.
God may dispose in the course of events as with Haman who sought to destroy Israel. He was found out and hung on the gallows and those who conspired with him were destroyed.
God may dispose in judgment as with Israel when they were taken into captivity by the Babylonians and, as a nation, suffered for seventy years.
God will eventually make final disposition in the judgment for eternity when those who are judged according to their works are cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
There is one disposition that God promises to those who have turned from their own way trusting Jesus As their Lord and Saviour, that is already decided and the disposition is sure. That disposition is called salvation. Salvation is not chance nor is it obtained by casting lots. Salvation is sure only in Christ Jesus.
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Eventually the disposition of all decisions belongs to the Lord. Choose wisely.
The choice is still yours,
