Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 17:1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
Proverbs 15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
The principle is simple; it's better to live in quietness and love and have little than to have much and be religious living in strife and hatred.
Jesus is the greatest example of that as stated in Matthew 8:19 “And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.”
He had no place to lay His head and had the greatest peace. He is the greatest source of peace.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
There is no peace and quietness or love in:
Money - Jay Gould, the American millionaire, had a enormous fortune. When dying, he said “I suppose I am the most miserable man on earth.” (Has money become your God?)
Pleasure - Lord Byron lived a life of pleasure and ease; he wrote: “The worm, the canker and grief are mine alone.” (Has pleasure become your God)
Position or fame - Lord Beaconsfield enjoyed more than his share of both. He wrote: “Youth is a mistake; Manhood a struggle; old age a regret.”
Unbelief - Voltaire was an infidel of the most pronounced type. He wrote : “I wish I had never been born.”
The Apostle Paul wrote just before he died: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.
I had a very good friend who sang “This world is not my home” right up to his death. He loved and looked forward to seeing Jesus. No worries, no regrets, just quietness and love for the Lord.
In the book of Matthew, Jesus said not to worry or as the text says, “take no thought.”
Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Seek the Lord first, then you will have quietness and love regardless of circumstances, stuff and religion.
Proverbs 17:1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
Proverbs 15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
The choice is still yours,
