Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverb 13:10  Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

“Pride,” pride is the one thing the one characteristic that hides itself in itself.

The pride of the heart and soul of a person is like an onion, there are many layers that cover itself. To peal away one layer is to reveal another layer and find more onion. To peal away the layers of pride is to find another layer of pride.

Pride never admits it’s prideful for it cannot see itself, all pride sees is another layer of pride.

Pride is definitely an issue of the heart.

Mark 7:21  For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22  Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23  All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Pride very seldom admits itself wrong.  Pride will not allow itself to be humble, it’s too humiliating to be humble and pride simply cannot allow that to happen.

Pride must always be right, it does not see itself to be wrong. Pride sees itself as always being right.

Now, apply that to a marriage where both the husband and wife are proud, where does that go if no one sees themselves as being wrong. Argument ensues and nobody relents. Each side sees themselves as being right: ultimately pride separates and divides for pride must have its own way.

Proverb 13:10  Only by pride cometh contention:..

Apply that to the work environment  and the strife that may cause one to be let go. I have seen that type of person, in my younger years when I worked in manufacturing. The guy with pride was always butting heads with the management. Ultimately he was let go.

Proverb 13:10  Only by pride cometh contention:…

Pride is always against God. Psalm 10:4  The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

Did you know, a bible believing Christian can have pride and be against God? They can refuse to listen to God thinking that they know better than God. In doing so they reject God and by pride act against God’s will.

Proverb 13:10  Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

It is the well advised, that listens the advice of God that goes against pride and acts in the wisdom of God. That, my friend, means one must be humble to receive God’s advice for God never deals with pride.

My friend, Jesus never, ever had pride, in fact Jesus was very humble. He was humble to the will of God and humble to the point of death on the cross.

Acts 8:33  In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

Philippians 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

You have the choice, you can live in pride or be well advised and act in wisdom. If you wish to learn about your pride, read the bible, God will advise you on the subject.

Proverb 13:10  Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
