Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 13:5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
To the righteous, any type of sin aught to be loathsome: if it is loathsome to God it should be loathsome to the believer.
Proverbs 12:19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
The scriptures tell us that lying is from the heart.
Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
To be a false witness is to be a liar. Being a false witness is breaking the law of God.
Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Leviticus 19:11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
The word of God tells us that this will be prevalent as we draw closer to the end.
2Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
In verse three of 2Timothy we find trucebreakers, those who give their word or make contracts or commit to something and break their word, this a liar. We find false accusers, which is what happened to our Lord Jesus Christ.
There are four reasons to hate lying; the first is simply because we love the Lord our God and His Son Jesus Christ.
Jesus said in John 14:15; “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
The second is because we are born-again and lying does not become us as Christians. 2Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
The third is judgment.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Our Lord tells us there will be no liar in heaven, not even the little white lie.
Revelation 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Only the saved, the born again believer whose name is written in the Lamb’s book of life will be in heaven.
The fourth is your testimony in front of the lost world.
1Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Peter 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
Is your name there?
The choice is still yours,
