Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 12:1  Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish. 2  A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn. 3  A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

To love instruction is to welcome both learning and reproof. He that welcomes only knowledge and rejects reproof becomes an intelligent brute.

King David loved the instruction of God and the reproof that it brought.

Psalms 119:97  MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. 98  Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. 99  I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. 100  I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

Where does instruction and knowledge come from? It come from the word of God given by the living word of God, Jesus.

Proverbs 2:6  For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Hebrews 1:1  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

A good Psalm to read is Psalm 119. Psalm 119 speaks of God’s word, God’s testimonies, God’s commandments, God’s statutes, God’s precepts and more. The entire Psalm is about God’s word, it gives both knowledge and reproof.

David wanted God’s instruction and knowledge and yes, reproof to guide him in all aspects of his life.

Psalm 119:11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Psalm 119:105  NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

God gives us His word that the man of God, the believer, will be perfect, mature,  throughly furnished unto all good works.

2Timothy 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

2Timothy 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

When your pastor preaches the word of God and brings reproof and rebuke, are you wise enough to listen and receive instruction? Are you wise enough to ask if any part of the message he brings applies to you? Or, do you get upset and angry and rebel against it?

To love instruction is to accept both knowledge and reproof.

The greatest reproof one can receive is the reproof against sin and the sinner.

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

1Timothy 1:15  This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners;…

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
