Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 25:23  The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

Do you have a backbiting tongue, a tongue that talks behind the backs of others? Are you a gossip when those you gossip about are not present to defend themselves?

Are you the recipient of that backbiting speech? Do you listen to such language while the one being talked about is not there to defend himself?

The north wind normally drives away rain so the angry countenance or the person who rebukes such talk quells the conversation.

If someone is talking behind the back of another person the best response would be to stop the conversation and invite the one being talked about into the conversation. You will see the whole situation change and the backbiter will cease.

Most of the time the gossiper, the backbiter does so to elevate themselves or cause gain over another person. Most of the time it is used to belittle or harass or defame someone else. It becomes a comparison issue saying look at me I am better than they are or my cause is better than theirs, my way is the best way. This is nothing more than the way of a prideful person or a narcissistic person.

2Corinthians 10:12  For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

I am so glad that my Lord Jesus is not like that. He remembers our sins no more. Once forgiven your sins, your failures, your iniquities will never be brought up before the Lord. They are paid for in the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of calvary.

Isaiah 43:25  I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Hebrews 8:12  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

However, those who are not born-again have different outcome; your sins and iniquities and transgressions will be remembered and brought up at the judgment day.

Revelation 20:11  And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The Lord will not backbite or gossip but will reward each person directly to their face.

If you are going to talk about someone in a derogatory way, make sure they are present.

Proverbs 25:23  The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

The choice is still yours,
