Morning Devotion: Read Exodus

Exodus 5:19  And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task. 20  And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: 21  And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us. 22  And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? 23  For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

Pharaoh was impatient with the Israelites because they, being full of hope, left off their work in serving him. Moses was sent by God to deliver them from Egypt and bondage and slavery. He was doing exactly what God wanted.

Sometimes the working of the Lord in the lives of His people isn’t what they expect. Life got hard, Pharaoh became cruel. The leaders of Israel could only see their personal hardship. They could not see God working and did not trust God.

They met with Moses in the way (That means they met with him on the path he was walking.) and chided him for doing wrong. He was not doing wrong, he was doing exactly as God instructed him.

Exodus 5:21  And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

What they said to Moses would be like us going to someone and saying: “God sees what you’re doing and He will judge you for it; You made us look bad in front of Pharaoh.” All the while they did not realize it was God working.

Do you ever become short sighted not seeing what the Lord is doing in your life because it creates a temporary hardship? Do you ever call the judgment of God on others when it is really God doing the work?

They could not see the big picture; Moses had told them what was going to happen, he even showed them the miracles of God. Yet, their short sightedness prevented them from truly seeing the big picture. They could not wait upon the Lord, it was taking too long and the process was created hardship.

Psalm 37:7  Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Isaiah 40:31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.

Their consternation and accusation became a burden to Moses. Moses went to the Lord and questioned his own personal worth in the matter.

Exodus 5:22  And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? 23  For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

My friend, do you ever accuse your pastor when it is God working in your life?

Do you ever cause your pastor grief when things do not go your way? Do you ever fail to see the big picture?  We saw a lot of that in the years of the pandemic.

Are you a burden to your pastor or are you blessing to him? When trials come in your life, seek the Lord, cast all your care upon Him for he careth for you.

Don’t blame others for what God is doing.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
