Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 27:7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
Are you a person given to appetite? There are those who live to eat and those who eat to live. The one consumes for the simple fact of consuming while the other is moderate. The one is gluttonous while the other is temperate.
The full soul finds even the dainties and elegant things to be loathsome; they become picky because of their glut.
The hungry soul yearns for sustenance and nourishment seeking and choosing even the bitter things for they become sweet to the pallet.
When the soul of man is full of religion and cultish things their appetite for the word of God is loathsome. But to the hungry soul the word of God, as bitter as it may be, becomes sweet.
When God was commissioning Ezekiel to be a prophet to Israel he had him eat the word of God; he had to consume to the point the word was in him and he in the word.
Ezekiel 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. 3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.
When the Apostle John was commissioned by the Lord he had to do the same thing. The word of God was sweet and it was bitter.
Revelation 10:9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. 10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. 11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
The word of God is both bitter and sweet. The full soul, full of religion or cultish things, maybe even full of themselves and the world, care little for the things of God refusing even the sweetness of it. While the hungry soul will seek it and accept even the bitter things it holds counting even that for sweetness.
Psalm 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
Are you hungry for the word of God seeking and reading it every day? Are you hungry for the God of the word seeking Him to fill your soul with His love and will and way?
Luke 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Luke 6:25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.
